Medications that protect against heartworm require a prescription from a veterinarian. Every clinic differs, some only need a wellness exam so ensure your pet is healthy and can take the medication. Sometimes a clinic requires a heartworm antigest test (a blood test sent out to the lab) to make sure your pet tests negative. Call the clinic to see their preferred process.
